The Los
Niños
Primero
program
provides
Latino
children,
ages 3
to 5, from
the South
Madison
area with
developmentally
and culturally
appropriate
preparation
for Kindergarten
and long-term
academic
success
with quality,
research-based
early childhood
education
and family
support.
The objective
is to prepare
each child
with the
confidence
and skills
to succeed
in school
and in
life by
focusing
on:
* school
readiness
* second
language
acquisition
* cultural
appreciation
* family
education
& involvement
We strive
to build
on our
families'
home language
and culture
to help
their children
succeed.
While LNP
is conducted
mostly
in Spanish,
English
vocabulary
is incorporated
as well,
to assist
children
in their
transition
to kindergarten.
Parents
and grandparents
are their
children's
first teachers!
Caregivers
should
be empowered
by access
to resources
and information
to make
the decisions
necessary
for the
life-long
success
of their
children.

English
as a Second
Language
(ESL)
ESL Program
Tuesday
and Wednesday
1:00 -
2:00
Instruction
tailored
for each
individual
based on
their English
language
skill.
The course
includes
participation
in basic
listening,
reading,
writing
and oral
activities.
Participants
who successfully
complete
the course
will be
able to
comprehend
short utterances,
simple
courtesy
expressions
and main
themes.
In addition,
the learners
will be
able to
copy, list
and label
concrete
terms and
to fill
in simple
autobiographical
information
on forms.
Course
competencies
include
writing
the letters
of the
English
alphabet,
recognizing
and identifying
sound-letter
correspondences,
reading
and writing
simple
words,
producing
numbers
from 1-100,
and ability
to read
clock time.
Learners
will be
able to
read, write,
and develop
listening
comprehension
for simple
biographical
information
and very
basic vocabulary
items.
